Psalm 95

1  O come, let us sing to the Lord; ♦︎
   let us heartily rejoice in the rock of our salvation.
2  Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving ♦︎
   and be glad in him with psalms.
3  For the Lord is a great God ♦︎
   and a great king above all gods.
4  In his hand are the depths of the earth ♦︎
   and the heights of the mountains are his also.
5  The sea is his, for he made it, ♦︎
   and his hands have moulded the dry land.
6  Come, let us worship and bow down ♦︎
   and kneel before the Lord our Maker.
7  For he is our God; ♦︎
   we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand.
8  O that today you would listen to his voice: ♦︎
   ‘Harden not your hearts as at Meribah,
      on that day at Massah in the wilderness,
9  ‘When your forebears tested me, and put me to the proof, ♦︎
   though they had seen my works.
10  ‘Forty years long I detested that generation and said, ♦︎
   “This people are wayward in their hearts;
      they do not know my ways.”
11  ‘So I swore in my wrath, ♦︎
   “They shall not enter into my rest.” ’

1 Chronicles 11: 1-9

David Anointed King of All Israel

11Then all Israel gathered together to David at Hebron and said, ‘See, we are your bone and flesh. 2For some time now, even while Saul was king, it was you who commanded the army of Israel. The Lord your God said to you: It is you who shall be shepherd of my people Israel, you who shall be ruler over my people Israel.’ 3So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord. And they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord by Samuel.

Jerusalem Captured

David and all Israel marched to Jerusalem, that is, Jebus where the Jebusites were, the inhabitants of the land. 5The inhabitants of Jebus said to David, ‘You will not come in here.’ Nevertheless, David took the stronghold of Zion, now the city of David. 6David had said, ‘Whoever attacks the Jebusites first shall be chief and commander.’ And Joab son of Zeruiah went up first, so he became chief. 7David resided in the stronghold; therefore it was called the city of David. 8He built the city all round, from the Millo in a complete circuit; and Joab repaired the rest of the city. 9And David became greater and greater, for the Lord of hosts was with him.

Revelation 7: 13-17

13 Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, ‘Who are these, robed in white, and where have they come from?’ 14I said to him, ‘Sir, you are the one that knows.’ Then he said to me, ‘These are they who have come out of the great ordeal; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
15 For this reason they are before the throne of God,
   and worship him day and night within his temple,
   and the one who is seated on the throne will shelter them.
16 They will hunger no more, and thirst no more;
   the sun will not strike them,
   nor any scorching heat;
17 for the Lamb at the centre of the throne will be their shepherd,
   and he will guide them to springs of the water of life,
and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’
